Biography

Dr. Huiyao Wang studied Physics at the Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, China and graduated as MS in 1993. He then joined the research group of Prof. Tianmin Wangin the Department of Material Science at the Lanzhou University. He received his PhD degree in 1998 at the same University. After two years postdoctoral fellowship and several research associate works, he obtained the position of an Associate Professor at the New Mexico State University. He has published more than 40 research articles in SCI journals.

Joined the Chemical Engineering Department in Fall 2012. The primary focus of our research is the design, synthesis, and evaluation of nanomaterials for various medical applications. This includes self-assembled chemistries, nanoparticles, nanotubes, and nanostructured surfaces. Medical applications include inhibiting bacteria growth, inflammation, and promoting tissue growth. Tissues of particular interest are bone, cartilage, skin, nervous system, bladder, cardiovascular, and vascular. There is also an interest in anti-cancer applications where nanomaterials can be used to decrease cancer cell functions without the use of pharmaceutical agents. There is also a large interest in developing in situ sensors which can sense biological responses to medical devices and respond in real time to ensure implant success. Lastly, there is an interest in understanding the environmental and human health toxicity of nanomaterials.

Raymond C. Jagessar obtained his BSc (Distinction) in Chemistry/Biology from the University of Guyana (1992) and his PhD from the UK (1995). He held three Post Doctoral Research Fellowships at the University of South Carolina (USA), Wichita State University (USA) and the University of the West Indies (1996-1999). He has also won several international awards, amongst them are Chartered Chemist, CChem and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, FRSC, UK. His research interests are broad, covering the spectrum of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry. He has published over seventy (70) research articles, five book chapters and presented at several international conferences. He is currently Professor in Chemistry at the University of Guyana (South America)

Dr Leon Burgess-Dean is the creator of CalAlSil™. A management professional, innovator, chemist and materials engineer, Leon has over 20 years of experience in procurement management, technical, research and laboratory management of building products and construction materials facilities. In addition, Leon has specialist and extensive experience in developing solutions to difficult problems in construction, manufacturing and capital projects. Leon has a Bachelor of Applied Chemistry with Honours which was followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration completed in 2005. Leon’s expertise is in the complex chemical and material interactions between multi-component aqueous environments and heterogeneous brittle materials.

Dr. Burguet studied Mining Engineering at Oviedo University, Spain. She received her PhD degree in 2016 at the same institution. She works as an engineer, in the design, construction and management of energy and water treatment projects, since 2005, in companies such as Biodis Engineering Swiss, Monofuels, Suez or Ence. Jorge Xiberta Bernat holds a Master's degree in Chemistry (University of Barcelona, Spain, 1967) and a PhD in Chemistry (University of Oviedo, Spain, 1972). At the University of Oviedo he was appointed Full Professor of Physical Chemistry (1974), Professor of Thermal Engines (1994) and Professor Emeritus (2016). He has participated in 11 EC research projects (1983-2009) and 30 Spanish projects (1983-2010). Financed by the EC, he has directed in Spain the "Energy Plan for the Principality of Asturias 1995-2005" (Regional and Urban Energy Plan, XVII, EC) and the Energy Agency ASTURENER (SAVE II, DGXVII, EC) from 1997 to 2000. He is author of over 50 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and other publications. José Pablo Paredes Sánchez received the Ph.D. degree in energy engineering from the University of Oviedo, Spain. He is a lecturer with the Energy Department, University of Oviedo. He is the author or coauthor of papers and conferences presentations on renewable energy and energy efficiency. He has been associated with renewable energy projects of the Oviedo Higher Technical School of Mining Engineering. He is also involved in research programs for updating renewable energy and energy-efficiency research, and higher education.

Sylwia Górecka (Basąg) received her Ph.D. degree(2019) from the Faculty of Chemistry of Jagiellonian University in Kraków and Eng. degree (2014) from the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics of the University of Science and Technology (Kraków). At 2019 she joined the research group of prof.L. Obalová at the Institute of Environmental Technology, VŠB-Technical University Ostrava (VŠB-TUO).Research interests are materials chemistryandheterogeneous catalysis (selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia, selective catalytic reduction of nitric oxide and total oxidation of VOCs).

Dr. Rahat Javaid studied Applied Chemistry at the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, Pakistan and  graduated as MSc in 2003. She was awarded with Gold Medal for getting first class first position in MSc. She continued her studies and earned MPhil degree at the same institute. She was selected for Monbukagakusho MEXT Scholarship Japan and received her PhD degree in 2010 at Tohoku University, Japan. After postdoctoral research experience at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, she obtained the position of Research Scientist at the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST. She has participated in many national/International conferences and published research articles in peer reviewed journals.

Also, she analyzed the appropriate amount of polymer electrolyte in the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell by counting both electron and hydrogen cation flows. Further, she investigated the sintering behavior of Pt on various catalyst supports. Various types of Pt diffusions depending on support materials such as ceria, zirconia, and alumina were confirmed.

In the years 2008-2011 Scholarship holder of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba. Her research works are focus on the synthesis of composite materials and investigation of their properties.

Dr. Fan is a Professor of the School of Physics, Liaoning University, and also the Deputy Dean of the Lvyuan Institute of Energy & Environmental Science and Technology. He got his B.Sc. in physics from Liaoning University in 2003 and his Ph.D from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Nanjing University in 2008. From 2008 to 2011, he was a postdoctoral fellowship in the School of Chemistry, Nanjing University, studying the synthesis of mesoporous multi-metal oxides. Currently, he researches hydrogen generation, catalytic degradation of organic and inorganic gaseous pollution by using light and heat energy, the synthesis of porous catalyst and defect mediated photocatalyst. In the above fields, he published 40 papers in international journals and was awarded 4 CN patents.

Dr. Mansoor Akhtar received his bachelor degree in Bachelor of Science Education from University of Sindh in 2011 and his Mater in Chemistry from Institute of functional material chemistry, Northeast Normal University, China in 2015. He served Institute of functional material chemistry as student demonstrator in Supramolecular Lab for one year (2014-2015). In 2013, he won Cultural Scholarship announced by Ministry of Education for Masters and joined Institute of functional material chemistry, Northeast Normal University in September 2013 as Masters Scholar and he completed Masters degree in 2015 under the supervision of great scientist Prof Zhu Dongxia. In continual same year, he earned Chinese Government Scholarship for PhD degree under supervision of Prof Su Zhongmin. During his PhD, he did research work on Luminescent material by synthesizing oxadiazole derivatives and published five research articles in international journals.

Dr. Ricardo Sonsim de Oliveira studied Chemistry at the State University of Western Paraná, graduated in 2006, specialized in higher education, master's degree in bioenergy and biofuels in 2013. He received his PhD degree in 2017 at the same institution. He is professor at the federal institute of Paraná and one of the founders of the course of chemical analysis, head of a research group from CNPQ (national council for scientific and technological development) called product development and chemo-biophysical processes. He works in several areas of chemistry, having filed four patents, one of them in the area of renewable energy.

Dr. Adeleke Abdulrahman Oyekanmi is a research fellow at the School of Industrial technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia. His core expertise are in water and wastewater management by creating sustainable treatment technologies.  He is a researcher of repute with vast experiences in environmental management, pollution analysis, modelling and optimization of process variables for enhanced operational system. His expertise includes water quality assessment and prediction of surface and sub-surface storm water pollution using geographical information systems, modelling of water quality parameters, wastewater treatments and solid wastes management. His works on new processes development, mathematical modelling and optimization are well documented in reputable international journals in the web of sciences. His works have earned him numerous laurels and awards some of which include the winner of a silver medal in 2015 (Best Paper Research), silver medal in 2016 (Innovative Product Research) organized by the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization and Consultancy Service (ORICC), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, He is a gold medallist (Environmental and Renewable Energy Category) at the 27th International Invention and Technology Exhibition (ITEX Malaysia) in 2016 and also a gold medal recipient at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIFF South Korea). He is also a regular reviewer for high impact factor journals among which are Bioresource Technology, Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Water Processing Engineering, Journal of Chemical and Biotechnology, Journal of Oil Palm Research, Journal of soil and sediment, Heliyon. He is the recipient of the grand price as ‘the outstanding reviewer of the month’ of November 2018 for the Journal of Cleaner Production. Mr.Hammou Abdel Illah, PhD student chemistry at Process Engineering Department, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University Abdelhamid Ibn Badis of Mostaganem,BP/227, Mostaganem, 27000, Algeria, since 2009 to date. We joined the research group of Prof. Djennad M’hamed in the specialty polymers and polymer engineering at the University Abdelhamid Ibn Badis of Mostaganem-ALGERIA. Now I have the rank of Assistant Professor in the University Abdelhamid Ibn Badis of Mostaganem-ALGERIA.

Ashanendu Mandal has been an energy professional for more than 34 years. His work for ONGC in offshore and onshore oilfields includes commissioning, modifications, safety, operations, artificial lifts, pressure maintenance, EOR and planning. In addition, Mr Mandal has more than 10 years experience in marketing of upstream and downstream products. He has participated in oil and gas events in more than 17 countries as a speaker, panelist, roundtable moderator or session chairman. He has few publications in Chemical Weekly. He is an M. Tech in Chemical Engineering and MBA in Finance, and now pursuing his Doctorate in University of Calcutta.

Dr. Lokendra Singh Thakur received his PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India in 2017 and his M.Tech. Degree from Ujjain Engineering College Ujjain in 2004. He works as an Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering at Ujjain Engineering College, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India from 2006. He has got 06 years of industrial experience. He holds more than a decade of teaching and research experience in the field of water & wastewater treatment, bioremediation and bioenergy (pyrolysis of biomass and waste). He is also a Visiting Professor of Environmental and Chemical Science, Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Arunachal Pradesh and Professor on lien, Department of Environmental Science, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala (H P). Dr. Pant was the recipient of Silver Jubilee Research Fellowship award for the year 2003 by Kumaun University, Nainital (India); UCOST Young Scientist Award 2009, INSA visiting fallow 2010, DST-SERC visiting Fallow 2010, DST- SERC Young Scientist Award 2011 and Visitor award 2017 by Hon’ble President of India for his research activities. In 2019 he was conferred by the 8th National Award for Technology Innovation (2018) by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India by Hon,ble Vice –President of India.

Pranshu Kumar Gupta, after being B.Sc. (Hons.) gold medalist, is currently pursuing M.Sc. in Chemistry (Inorganic) and is working as a post-graduate project student under the supervision of Prof. (Distin.) Lallan Mishra at Department of Chemistry (CAS), Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, UP, India. He has worked as Indian Academy of Sciences (2018) and JNCASR (2019) summer research fellow at IISc Bangalore and IISER TVM, under supervision of Dr. Mrinmoy De and Prof. (Bhatt. Awardee.) K. George Thomas, respectively. His research interests are computational green-nanochemistry, lattice induced chiral inversion, eco-friendly metal nanoparticle, carbon quantum-dot synthesis: metal/bio-stabilizer induced bioactivity, surface-enhanced catalysis and confinement-controlled photochemistry.

Dr. Mubarak Ali has pursued his Post-Doctoral Research in Satellite Research Centre, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His Post-Doctoral Research work was associated with Encapsulated Sandwich Composites for Thermal Coupling in Satellite Applications. He has accomplished his Ph.D in School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with Nanyang Research Scholarship. His Ph.D research work dealt with Impact Damage and Scarf Repair of Laminated Composites with Dispersed Core/Shell Thermoplastic Particles. His Ph.D Supervisor was Associate Professor Sunil C Joshi. He has completed his M.S. (by Research) in IIT Madras, in Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. His M.S. Research dealt with Fretting Wear and Fretting Fatigue Analysis of Plasma Nitrided Ti-6Al-4V & AISI 304 Stainless Steel for Aerospace Application. His M.S. Research Supervisor was Professor Ganesh Sundara Raman, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras. He holds a B.Tech Degree in Production Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Anna University Campus, Chennai.  His Final Year Undergraduate Research Project involved Vibration Analysis of Microsatellite Satellite Structure, which forms a part of early stage analysis of ANUSAT Satellite program. ANUSAT was an Ambitious Indian Student Research Microsatellite, which was designed, developed & integrated at Department of Aerospace Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chrompet, Anna University during 2002-2009. Dr. Naibova studied Chemical Engineering at the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute named M. Azizbayov, Azerbaijan and graduated as MS in 1973 and PhD in 1987. She joined the laboratory of “Protective coatings” at the Oil Engineering Institute of the All-Union Scientific research and worked there from 1973 to 1976. From 1976 to 1994, she worked as a senior laborant, laboratory assistant, assistant, senior teacher at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). As of 1994, she has been working ASOIU as an associate professor. She is the author of150 research articles, 25 patents, and 18 books and textbooks.

Ms. Noreen Mazhar obtained her BS Chemistry degree from University of Education in 2016 and her MS Chemistry from Institute of Chemistry, University of the Punjab (PUIC) Lahore, Pakistan in 2019 under the supervision of Professor Dr. Tariq Mahmud one of the leading scientist in Pakistan. She did research work on “Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Evaluation of Novel Schiff Base Ligand derived from 3-hydroxy-benzaldehyde and its Divalent Metal Complexes” and published 2 research articles as principal author in international journals. She served PUIC as internee in Inorganic Chemistry Lab for one year (2017-2018). In 2020, she won fully funded Chinese Government Scholarship for PhD in Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) China.

Dr. Nataliya Pryadko, is a leading researcher in the Department of Thermogasdynamic of Energy Plant of Institute of Technical Mechanics of NASU, Ukraine. She has worked in the field of mineral processing and nanotechnology of jet grinding for 14 years. She has authored for more than 150 publications and holds 15 issued patents. Dr Genadiy Strelnikov is a professor and director of the Department of Thermogasdynamic of Energy Plant of Institute of Technical Mechanics of NASU, Ukraine. He has worked in the field of rocket engine technology for 40 years. He has authored for more than 160 publications and holds 25 issued patents. Currently, he is the Scientific Leader for three major research projects from the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, the research group is focused on the development of various ground nanomaterial applications and modification of jet grinding technology.
